Our Troop

Troop 673G is an all-girl Scouts BSA Troop in Scotts Valley, California. Our Troop is based on our CORE principles - Conservation, Outdoors, Recreation and Adventure! We teach Scouts ages 10.5 - 18 the principles of Scouting in the great outdoors. We meet 2-4 times per month, and have one outdoor event every month, year round, where our Scouts participate in activities like swimming, archery, camping and wilderness survival. The Scouts cook their own meals over fires and stoves, learn important skills like first aid and disaster preparedness, and have real-world adventures. They study the natural world and the wildlife that lives in it, while respecting the environment and 'leaving no trace' when they go home.

Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting movement, believed that classroom education alone was inadequate to instill the confidence, character, and initiative needed to become a successful adult. He was a strong proponent of what he called "the outdoor trail" - the idea that the natural world was the best teacher, and that "learning by doing" in the wild was the best method. Our Scouts are challenged to organize their own adventures, carry out their own plans, and adapt when things don't turn out as expected. At the end of it all, they will "be prepared" for anything! With more than 130 Merit Badges -- from Archery and Art to Welding and Wilderness Survival -- Scouting is the ultimate form of learning by doing.
